🎉 Congratulations to our Summit Elementary Destination Imagination Teams! 🎭🔬
Our incredible students showcased creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving at the South Metro Regional DI Tournament, earning their way to State! 🌟
👏 Advancing to State:
🎨 The Rockin' Red Apples (3rd & 4th Grade)
🔬 The DI-AIs (Actual Intelligence) (5th & 6th Grade)
Two other 5th-grade teams competed beautifully! While they won’t be advancing to State, they made us proud:
🔬 Project Cerberus – 5th Place
⚙️ The DI Pizza Pups – 5th Place
And a huge shoutout to the Divide community for receiving the prestigious Spirit of DI Award—an unprecedented and well-deserved honor! 🏆
A special thank you to teacher Donna Frick for her dedication and leadership! 💚

🎉 Summit K-Kids! 🎉
Our incredible Summit K-Kids have been hard at work this semester with a variety of meaningful activities:
🍪 Hosting a bake sale at Family Fun Night
🎁 Creating gift bags for the DHS Angel Tree Project
📦 Wrapping boxes for the Mac-N-Cheese food drive for Community Cupboard
🧼 Clearing trash and wiping tables at Breakfast with Santa
This amazing group of students is discovering inspiring ways to serve their school and community. Way to go, K-Kids—you’re making a positive impact! 💚🐾

🤩Before the break, our kindergarteners got creative in art class, making the cutest turkey hats! 🦃🎨 We hope you had a fantastic week off and are excited to have everyone back in school today!

🧠✨ Our 3rd and 4th grade GT boys took on an exciting Instant Challenge, practicing for Destination Imagination! With a limited set of materials, they engineered the tallest tower they could, aiming to balance an orange on top. Great teamwork and creativity in action—way to rise to the challenge! 🍊🏗️ Go Eagles! 🦅

🎉 Highlights from last night's Homecoming Parade! A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, participated, and came out to support! Go Panthers! 💚🐾

🍂👀👂 Kindergarten spent Social Studies outdoors, using all 5 senses to explore the world around them! 🌿👃👋 Their weekly focus connected the 5 senses with learning about the weather. Such a fun, hands-on way to learn! ❤️

📣WPSD is proud to officially become a Purple Heart Community and join the Purple Heart Trail!
💚Today, Board of Education President Mick Bates, Vice President Cassie Kimbrell, and Superintendent Ken Witt stood in front of the recently mounted sign, honoring the brave men and women who have sacrificed for our country.
🌟This is an important recognition for our district and community as we pay tribute to those who have earned the Purple Heart. 💜

🤩Mrs. Barnes' second-grade class is diving into the world of fairy tales! Today, they suited up as lumberjacks in their finest flannel, devoured flapjacks, and shared fun facts about the legendary Paul Bunyan before drawing a picture of him. Many Summit Elementary crew joined in for a Flannel Friday lumberjack takeover! 🪵
📣Special shoutout to the Fisher family for fueling our classroom of lumberjacks with delicious flapjacks! 🥞 Your generosity made our Flannel Friday extra sweet! 🌲

Second grade students at Summit Elementary enjoyed hands-on lessons about Teller County history from volunteers through the Ute Pass Historical Society. Local history is part of our second grade standards, and this field trip concluded a quarter full of learning about the people who built the Ute Pass area. This was a field trip to remember. We appreciate all the docents for making it happen, as our students enjoyed living the history.

Congratulations to Summit's Destination Imagination teams. They competed at the regional competition last weekend. The 4th grade team got FIRST place in their Scientific challenge and the 5th/6th graders got SECOND place in their Technical challenge! Both teams will head to State in April!!!
Now, while this is super news, the best news is how hard they worked, persevered under pressure as a team, and how well they represented Summit! They were truly respectful, purposeful and made everyone PROUD 👏

After diving into the captivating world of Eric Carle's "The Very Busy Spider," some of our kindergarten students embarked on a thoughtful journey, reflecting on their own bustling school day activities. Embracing their inner creativity, they each selected a task that keeps them "very busy" and shared it using the sentence starter, "I am very busy..."

We're thrilled to congratulate all the amazing Gateway students who received a "shout out" during the month of January! 💚
As a special reward, these outstanding students got to putt for a prize! ⛳️🏆 Keep up the fantastic work, Gateway stars! 🌟👏
