Academic Programs

Advisory
Every student deserves individual attention when it comes to their education and planning for their lives after graduation. Advisory is one way the staff at WP Jr./Sr. HS walks alongside our students on this path. Each teacher mentors a group of students throughout their high school career, exploring career options, academics, college opportunities, social-emotional learning, and navigating life skills such as financial preparedness. Students meet with their Advisory teachers every day of the week with focused lessons on a variety of topics periodically during the month and a focus on opportunities for academic assistance and growth. Most importantly, iCAP activities are built into the Advisory system for all 9th-12th graders; a new requirement for graduation starting with the class of 2020. Students, teachers, counselors, and parents will have access to the Naviance program, where students will track their iCap progress.

Capturing Kids' Hearts
At our school, we use the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program to help create a safe, supportive, and connected learning environment. This nationally recognized program equips teachers and staff with tools to build positive relationships with students, foster trust and respect in the classroom, and develop strong social-emotional skills. Through intentional practices such as greeting students at the door, creating class agreements, and modeling healthy communication, Capturing Kids’ Hearts empowers students to take ownership of their behavior and learning. The goal is simple but powerful: when students feel seen, heard, and valued, they are more engaged, motivated, and ready to succeed both in school and in life.
Programs for Grades 9-12

In-Person Online Learning
In-Person Online Learning challenges and empowers students to become active learners through a combination of face-to-face and online instruction. During in-person online learning courses, students will experience a reduction in the amount of time spent in a traditional classroom setting while continuing to learn through active, independent learning facilitated by the teacher. This format allows students more flexibility and control over when they choose to learn. In addition, the blended learning structure exposes students to the online learning environments they are likely to experience in college as well as the workplace.
Students best served through an in-person online learning format are students who are self starters, possess time management skills, advocate for themselves, and feel comfortable communicating through the use of technology. A variety of courses will be available to students and included in their customized learning plan.
To be considered for In-Person Online Learning, students must complete complete and submit an application which they can obtain from the Academic Advisor
