Columbine News, October 6, 2017

In this issue:

  • From the principal and highlights of the week
  • Book Fair is coming up
  • Veterans Day Assembly is coming up
  • News and updates are posted on PK-5 links and/or  HERE

 Great afternoon everyone!
Though short for the students, the week was full of exciting and joyful work:

  • We celebrated all, 1st through 5th grade, September and October birthdays with the Birthday Book Lunch.  It is a beloved tradition at Columbine: students born in a particular month come to the office during lunch to share a meal, visit, and chose a book that becomes their birthday present from the principal.  We will celebrate October birthdays and Kindergarten birthdays from August through October soon!
  • Wednesday started with the Walk-to-School event.  We had a great time walking together!
  • Our school counselor, Mrs. Lasiter-Read, has set a goal to have lunch with every Kindergarten through 5th grade student this year!  Columbine is a place of building and valuing relationships, and what can be better than sharing a meal time.  Your student may have already attended a lunch bunch session; if not, he or she will!
  • The staff was engaged in much work on Friday: data analysis, writing READ plans, continuous safety training, and many other tasks.

We are so excited to inform you that the Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon! Many thanks to the fourth grade parents for their special support with the book fair this year!
We will be open beginning after school on Friday, October 13, from 2:30 – 3:30. Students will be previewing the fair video this coming week. This is always an exciting time in the library… new books and getting books in students’ hands.   The book fair will also be open October 18th until the end of parent-teacher conferences. During the school days, students are allowed to bring money and shop during their lunch times. It will be open every day after school from the 16th to the 18th for parents. Students do come during conferences while parents talk to teachers. We tell them they can only bring money that their parents know about, even their own. Our message is, “ Parents are in charge of the money.”
The library keeps 25% of the monies raised and we use it to purchase new books for the library and to support classroom needs.
Come support our school and your child’s reading! Thanks for your support,
Mr. Miller, Librarian
